What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occuring by-product created from the breakdown of uranium deposits found in the earth. It is found at various levels throughout the country, but is especially high in Colorado. Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas which is impossible to detect without proper testing, so your family may not even be aware of their level of exposure.

Negative air pressure in the home from indoor/outdoor temperature variations, fireplaces, furnaces, dryers as well as bathroom fans venting indoor air causes radon gas to be pulled into the home through the basement or slab. The gas tends to build in the house during winter months when windows are closed for long periods of time.

Radon can also be found in private well water, or public water supply systems which use ground water.
